History
HNA grew out of a national
symposium on Netherlandish art held
in the spring of 1982 at Memphis
State University. Its initial
research conference, held at the
University of Pittsburgh in 1985,
drew over two hundred participants
from seven countries. The
Pittsburgh meeting set the standard
for four further international
conferences held in Cleveland
(1989), Boston (1993), Baltimore
(1998), Antwerp (2002), Baltimore/Washington 2006, and Amsterdam 2010. HNA has
been an affiliated society of the
College Art Association since 1984,
and was incorporated in New York
State as a not-for-profit
corporation in
1988.
